Two Scholarship Programs at UALR

The first program is the University Science Scholars Program(USSP). It provides scholarships to talented and financially needy students who are interested in majoring in biology, chemistry, and earth sciences. Students may receive up to $5,000 per semester. These amounts can be added to Pell Grant awards.

The second program is the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program(ARK-LSAMP). This program is for underrepresented minorities who are interested in majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics(STEM). It provides $800 per senester and $1,200 for a summer institute prior to the student’s first semester. Students, who meet the requirements of both programs, can participate in and receive funding from both programs.

We have more information and application forms on our websites (
http://www.ualr.edu/sciencescholarship
or www.ualr.edu/lsamp).

How can I apply to USSP?

You need to complete several forms to apply to the University Science Scholars Program.

  • Fill out and submit the UALR Admissions Application on-line (www.ualr.edu/admissions/admissions/). You must apply on-line.
  • Fill out and submit the UALR Academic Scholarship Application form on-line at (http://ualr.edu/admissions/index.php/ualr-academic-scholarship-form/). This is a universal application form for most scholarships at UALR including the University Science Scholars Program. The USSP also requires a 500 word essay with the application on your interests, goals, work habitat, and strengths. We also require that two letters of recommendation be submitted with the application or sent to us. The application form is now available–see the menu to the left.
  • Fill out and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov). Submitting this form on-line is faster and easier but you can submit a paper form
  • Submit your application by February 1, 2013 so that you are eligible for most scholarships at UALR. However, we will consider applications for USSP at any time.

Stem Festival

LISA Academy has a strong tradition of offering students enriching opportunities to participate in Science Fair projects. This year we are moving forward with a STEM Festival for grades 8-11. We are excited about the options our students may choose in order to participate. Each high school student will be responsible for completing mandatory STEM PROJECTS over the entire year. The students, however, will have the option to choose a variety of different types of STEM activities/projects.

Upon their conclusion, these projects will be presented at school through an OPEN HOUSE format titled a “SCIENCE FESTIVAL”. The audience at this festival will be parents, school staff members, alumni members and prospective rising 8th graders and their parents who are interested in attending LISA Academy.
